A man has been arrested for attempting to enter Velana International Airport using a security pass issued to another person.
Police identified the suspect as 45-year-old Indian national Sanjeeva Reddy Yelma.
He was arrested on charges of trespassing after attempting to enter the airport without authorization through Gate 51 on the eastern side of Velana International Airport, using an access control pass issued to another individual by the Aviation and Port Security Command.
The Criminal Court remanded him in custody for 15 days. According to the court order, he was arrested after evidence was submitted against him.
The evidence includes a case report filed with police by the Aviation and Port Security Command, an incident report, and statements from the aviation security officer who testified in the investigation. It also includes a photograph of the pass allegedly used by the accused, a copy of the passport holder, and a document stating that the holder’s work visa has been cancelled.
A copy of the accused’s passport and employment approval document were also submitted.
However, the court order notes that the accused told the court the pass had been given to him by his employer. The court stated that the arrest was carried out in accordance with procedure.
