Tourist arrivals to the Maldives from China, so far this year, has exceeded 300,000.
According to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry on Wednesday, the Maldives recorded a total of 1,897,840 tourist arrivals as of November 11th. Of these, 300,352 arrivals were from China, making it the top tourist market for Maldivian tourism in 2025.
The second-highest tourist market to the Maldives is Russia with 239,004 arrivals. Other countries in the list include:
The statistics indicate tourist arrivals this year represent a 9.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year. At present, the Maldives welcomes an average of 6,025 tourists per day.
The majority of tourists traveling to the Maldives opted to stay in resorts, accounting for MVR 1.4 million tourists. 408,608 tourists stayed in guesthouses and 39,475 tourists stayed in safaris.
The government is targeting to welcome 2.3 million tourists that year. Maldives would need to attract over 400,000 tourists to achieve this goal with less than two months left in the year.
In the proposed 2026 state budget, the government forecasted 2.2 million tourist arrivals for the year, even though the official target remains at 2.4 million.
