TV presenter Inayath released on conditional bail

Well-known state media channel TVM’s presenter Inayath Ali, who was arrested on charges of possession of drugs in a drug operation conducted by police, has been released from custody on conditional bail.

Inayath and two others were arrested on the 25th of last month in a joint operation conducted by Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement. The three were arrested under a court order.

After her arrest, Inayath was remanded in custody for seven days. The court decided to release her on conditions pending trial.

Earlier, police said Inayath and two others were arrested for allegedly using and dealing in drugs.

During the operation that led to her arrest, officers from Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement recovered a hand-rolled cigarette suspected of containing narcotic substances, as well as rubber packets. These items were found at two different houses in Male' city. The provisional weight of the seized items collectively stands at 1246 grams.

Inayath Ali is currently a prominent figure in state media, serving as one of the most senior presenters at Public Service Media (PSM). She is also involved in producing and broadcasting programs on Voice of Maldives.

Throughout her career, Inayath has hosted various government ceremonies and has recently taken on the role of host for "Heyyambo," one of the Maldives' longest-running variety shows.
