153 travelers denied entry to Maldives in August

Over 150 travelers who flew to Maldives in August were denied entry into the country and sent back, according to records released by Immigration.

According to the statistics for airport movements released by Immigration on Tuesday, the Maldives recorded total 246,239 arrivals and 237,375 departures in August.

This includes the arrivals of 31,487 Maldivian nationals and 214,752 foreign nationals, and the departure of 15,968 Maldivian nationals and 221,407 foreign nationals.

The statistics also show the Immigration made 229 border interceptions in August. This includes 153 entry denials, 73 offloads and three interceptions.

Of the 246,239 foreign nationals who arrived in the Maldives in August, 192,058 flew in on tourist visas.

This includes 191,546 tourist arrivals who entered the Maldives through the Velana International Airport in the Maldivian capital, 378 recorded at the Gan International Airport in Addu City, 123 at the Maafaru International Airport in N. Atoll, eight at the Hanimaadhoo Airport in northern Maldives, and three at the Dhaalu Airport in Kudahuvadhoo.

Total tourist arrivals as of August’s end stood at 1.4 million.
