A Bangladeshi man who was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of slashing a female cashier’s throat with a knife during a robbery at a tobacco store in Hulhumale’ has been ordered to jail pending the outcome of his trial.
The incident in question took place at the OCC outlet in Hulhumale’ Phase I at around 12:45 pm on Saturday.
Jahangir Miah, 25, a Bangladeshi national, is accused of slashing the through of a 21-year-old Nepalese woman working as a cashier as he attempted to rob the store.
Jahangir, who was arrested the same day, was presented at court for his remand hearing on Sunday.
The police said the court ordered for him to be remanded in jail pending the outcome of his trial.
The police added that the Nepalese cashier injured in the incident was discharged from the hospital after treatment on Saturday.
Jahangir was arrested by the police from Hulhumale’ Phase II, after police identified him through CCTV footage and other means.
