Ooredoo Maldives employees celebrated World Tourism Day this Saturday by mingling with tourists and showcasing Maldivian hospitality
Employees, dressed in full traditional attire, welcomed newly arrived tourists at Velana International Airport (VIA) and presented them with traditional snack packs. This gesture, according to Ooredoo, symbolizes the well-known kindness and compassion of the Maldivian people, aiming to highlight the 'Maldivian charm' to visitors.
Describing the tourism industry as the "heart" of Maldivian success on a global scale, the company emphasized the importance of appreciating those who contribute to its reality. The event was reportedly well-received by tourists.
World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on September 27th, marking the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes in 1970. The day, first observed in 1980, was established by the UNWTO to raise global awareness of tourism's social, cultural, political, and economic value.
The official theme for the 55th World Tourism Day is 'Tourism and Sustainable Transformation', underscoring tourism’s role as a catalyst for positive, long-term change with a focus on resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability.
