President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Monday, has established the Digital Transformation Council, which will be chaired by himself.

According to the President's Office, the Council, established on the recommendation of the cabinet, is tasked with facilitating, guiding, and overseeing the implementation of the roadmap formulated to realize the “Maldives 2.0 – Digital-First Nation” vision.

The President's Office said the Council will be chaired by President Muizzu.

‘Maldives 2.0’ is a movement shaping the future of the Maldives through digital transformation.

The President, via a post on X back in May, said ‘Maldives 2.0’ is his administration's vision for the future – a digital-first Maldives built for every citizen, every island and every generation to come.

The President unveiled eight pillars, which he states would shape how the nation builds, connects, governs, protects rights, promotes transparency, and restores trust in public institutions.

The eight pillars are:

A secure national ID system that protects your rights and enables consent-based access to services and data

Open data sharing and governance

Systems that speak to each other – unlocking smarter, faster and more connected digital environment

Cybersecurity for national resilience

Strong cyber defenses that protect national systems – and build public trust in digital services

Modern legal framework for digital trust and governance

Modern lawns that protect your rights, enable innovation and build confidence in digital services

Secure and sovereign digital infrastructure

Secure national cloud, date centers and archives that preserve information and digital independence

Citizen-centric e-government services

Public service made fast, simple and transparent – build around the citizens’ needs, not bureaucracy
