Local NGO Veymandhoo Zuvaanunge Gulhun has opened a dedicated Special Education Needs (SEN) classroom at Th. Veymandoo, with funding from the Bank of Maldives (BML).
Veymandhoo Zuvaanunge Gulhun had received funding for the project last year, after it got selected among five recipients of the 2024 BML Fund, an initiative the national bank launched last year to empower NGOs, charity organization and clubs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects.
The official opening of the sensory and vocational classroom developed by the NGO at the Veymandoo School was announced by BML on Saturday.
The classroom offers a space that will support students to improve their fine and gross motor skills.
According to BML, the Veymandoo School also has future plans to expand the activities in the space with life skill classes such as cooking and sewing.
Ahmed Shaugat, the president of Veymandhoo Zuvaanunge Gulhun, said the purpose of the project is to provide a dedicated space for SEN students where they can engage in different activities.
He thanked the Veymandoo School, BML, and the project’s contractor for their support.
BML has also supported the development of SEN classrooms in two other schools this year; Hiriya School in Male’ and Salahuddin School in Hulhumale’ – initiatives that support over 200 students. The bank has also donated resources for SEN classrooms in 40 schools across the Maldives over the last five years.
