British-Spanish actor and screenwriter Taz Skylar, star of Netflix’s record-breaking live-action One Piece series, has signed a global brand ambassador for Indian Ocean travel destination, Maldives.
The new appointment, made under Visit Maldives’ global ambassadorship program, was announced by the country’s tourism promotion board on Wednesday.
Visit Maldives said the appointment of the 29-year-old actor brings the Maldives into the international spotlight through one of today’s most influential global entertainment figures.
Skylar, who plays Sanji – the Straw Hat Pirates’ charismatic chef – will highlight the Maldives’ natural beauty, unique adventures, cultural richness, and sustainable tourism initiatives during his ambassadorship.
With a social media following of over 1.8 million on Instagram, Skylar commands a highly engaged audience, averaging 45,000 likes and more than 300 comments per post.
Visit Maldives believes his influence offers them a powerful platform to reach new international audiences with authentic and compelling storytelling.
According to Visit Maldives, Skylar will visit the Maldives from August 27-September 15, for a destination marketing project that will showcase the adventurous and culinary side of the Maldives to the world.
Netflix’s One Piece has achieved unprecedented global success. Upon release, it became the most-watched show in 84 countries, surpassing records previously set by Wednesday and Stranger Things.
The series is celebrated as one of the best live-action anime adaptations to date, praised for breaking the long-standing “curse” of unsuccessful adaptations.
The Maldives, which won the award for the World Travel Awards (WTA) World's Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year in 2024, expects to welcome a record 2.3 million this year.
