The Bank of Maldives (BML) has commenced self-service banking ATM operations in three islands within Baa Atoll: Kamadhoo, Kudarikilu, and Kendhoo.
This initiative, launched on Monday, marks a significant step in the bank's "Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM" project, which aims to establish ATM services across all inhabited Maldivian islands by the end of 2025.
With these new installations, the total number of BML ATMs nationwide now stands at 47. The bank has indicated that additional ATM installations are scheduled for other Baa Atoll islands this week, including Goidhoo, Fehendhoo, Fulhadhoo, Hithaadhoo, Dhonfan, and Maalhos. Upon completion of these installations, all inhabited islands in Baa Atoll will have access to BML ATM services.
The launch event was attended by notable figures, including President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, several government ministers, BML Chairman Ahmed Ali Habeeb, and CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, alongside other senior bank officials.
Mohamed Shareef, CEO and Managing Director of BML, underscored the importance of this expansion project. "There is no doubt that this is one of the largest projects we have implemented so far, which demonstrates the importance we place on increasing the financial participation of the people and rural development," he stated.
BML maintains a comprehensive banking network across the Maldives, comprising 39 branches and 134 self-service banking centers spread across 20 atolls.
