The 40-year-old who was seriously injured in the fatal accident in the Maldivian capital that cost the life of a teenage boy has been flown abroad for further treatment.
The accident on the night of July 13th took near the Maafannu Bus Terminal at around 8:17pm, and involved a speeding motorcycle that hit the 40-year-old man using the zebra crossing before crashing into a pickup.
The accident resulted in injuries to three people: a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy on the motorcycle, and a 40-year-old man who was crossing the road.
The 17-year-old boy, who was driving the motorcycle, died from his injuries on the same night.
The 40-year-old sustained a brain bleed in the accident. He was initially treated on ventilator support at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Although he was removed from ventilator support, he remained in the ICU.

The 17-year-old boy who succumbed to his injuries has been identified as Yoosuf Alsan Mohamed, the son of musicians Mohamed Abdul Ghani (Theyrava) and Mariyam Ashfa.
CCTV footage of the accident shows the speeding motorcycle hit the 40-year-old as he used the zebra crossing to get to the other side of the road. He is seen trying unsuccessfully to move out of the way before getting hit by the motorcycle and getting thrown to the ground, along with the boy in the backseat of the motorcycle. Meanwhile, the boy driving the motorcycle got thrown under the pickup which was headed in the opposite direction.
Notably, there has recently been a rise in accidents involving minors driving motorcycles.

Last night, three people were injured in an accident in Addu City’s Hithadhoo district that involved a motorcycle driven by a 15-year-old.
