MNDF's Coastgaurd takes over land area in front of Hulhumale' Pizza Mia and restricts public access.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s Coastguard has temporarily taken over the land area in front of Hulhumale’ Pizza Mia and restricted the area to the public.
There is a dedicated area for MNDF’s Coastguard near the harbor area in Hulhumale’ Phase I, where safaris are docked. Some Coastguard vessels are docked in the area, with active military presence.
Hut structures previously located at this space have been removed, and construction efforts for a new building are underway.
Amid these efforts, the land area adjacent to the Coastguard zone—located in front of a complex with multiple buildings and commonly visited by the public—has been closed off
Speaking with Sun regarding the matter, the MNDF stated that the authority has not permanently taken over the area but has fenced it off for security purposes, as several Coastguard vessels have been docked in the area.
However, the authority did not disclose how long the area would remain closed.
Notably, an extended area in Hulhumale’ has been closed off for Coastguard’s needs after a missile craft gifted by Turkiye arrived in the Maldives. While the vessel has yet to be officially commissioned, the MNDF has also not revealed its docking location.
