Maldives' main international airport, Velana International Airport (VIA), served over four million passengers in the first six months of this year.
VIA published the details of passenger and air traffic movements for the first half of this year on Saturday night.
According to VIA, the airport has served a total of 4,108,845 passengers during the first half of this year, marking a four percent increase compared to the same period last year. The passengers include:

The highest daily passenger throughput in the first half of the year was recorded on January 4th for wheel-based aircraft, with 26,658 passengers, and on February 16th for seaplane passengers, with a total of 7,439.
Meanwhile, aircraft traffic movement increased by 7 percent in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, with a total of 124,665 aircraft movements. They include:
Notably, the new international terminal developed at VIA was inaugurated last month. The new terminal, which can accommodate 7.5 million passengers annually, took some nine years to build and cost around MVR 7 billion.
