President Muizzu further urged the international community to take immediate and tangible steps to stop Israel’s planned actions, end its aggression in Palestine, and ensure accountability for all violations occurring in the occupied territories.
Maldivian Foreign Ministry also strongly condemned the Israeli occupation authorities' plan to take control of Gaza in a statement on Friday.
In this regard, the Ministry said such actions would constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
The Ministry underscored that Maldives has reiterated that any attempt to seize control of Gaza and dismantle the existing Palestinian governance structure constitutes a direct assault on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and represents a clear violation of international norms.
The Ministry added that the government of Maldives calls on the international community to take urgent and decisive action to prevent the implementation of Israel’s plan to assert control over Gaza and to ensure that Israel is held accountable for all violations committed in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Reaffirming the Maldives’ steadfast and principled position, the Ministry expressed its unwavering support for the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people — including their right to self-determination and to an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Israel's security cabinet endorsed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's contentious plan to a phased plan to seize control of Gaza, 75 percent of which is already under Israeli occupation, on Thursday.
According to the report, the plan calls for Israeli occupational forces to advance into areas they have not previously invaded, including what it describes as "Hamas training camps" in central Gaza and main Gaza City itself.
