President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed solidarity with India following the tragic crash of Air India flight AI171.
The Air India plane with 242 passengers onboard crashed in Ahmedabad, the main city of India’s western Gujarat state. It was bound for London’s Gatwick.
The plane crashed shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.
President Muizzu, via a post on X, expressed profound sadness over the tragic crash.

According to initial reports, the aircraft crashed near the Meghani Nagar area of the city. Videos and images shared on social media showed thick smoke rising from the crash site.
The plane departed at 1:38 AM local time and crashed into a building near Ahmedabad airport at 1:40 PM.
While details of deaths and injuries are unknown at the moment, authorities have launched rescue operations and emergency services have rushed to the scene.
