Man sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexual abuse of three-year-old

Criminal Court has sentenced a man from HA. Hoarafushi to more than 18 years in prison after finding him guilty of sexually abusing a three-year-old child.

The convicted individual has been identified as Mohamed Naish Adam, of Hudhuhudhaage, HA. Hoarafushi.

The state charged him with committing a sexual act with a minor under the Act on Special Provisions for Perpetrators of Sexual Abuse against Children. According to the prosecution, Naish sexually abused the child on multiple occasions beginning in June 2025. The case was formally submitted to the court on August 14 last year.

Following the trial, the court delivered its verdict on Monday, finding him guilty and imposing a sentence of 20 years in prison.

However, after deducting the time he had already spent in pre-trial detention, the court ordered him to serve a remaining sentence of 18 years, seven months and 28 days.
