One person was killed, and eight others were injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, the country’s civil aviation authority said.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said it immediately took the injured to the hospital for treatment, with conditions ranging from minor to severe.
The attack late Wednesday also caused material damage that authorities were still assessing, it added, and said further updates would follow.
Earlier in the day, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said two people were killed and two others injured by falling debris after air defences intercepted a drone targeting an Aramco facility at the Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province.
The debris sparked a fire in a contractor’s vehicle, but the ministry said operations at the oil field were unaffected.
Damage assessment
The Saudi-led coalition also announced on Wednesday that it intercepted and destroyed five drones launched towards the kingdom, including in the Eastern Province and Medina region.
The Houthi militia previously attacked King Fahd International Airport on October 11, prompting damage assessments and safety inspections.
The incidents come amid escalating hostilities between Yemen’s Houthi militia and the Saudi-led coalition, including attacks targeting Saudi airports and energy facilities.
Yemen has seen renewed fighting since July between government forces and the Houthi militia, following a period of relative calm under a truce that began in April 2022.
The conflict started in September 2014, when the Houthi militia seized the capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces.
