Civil Court Judge Abdulla Ihsan: JSC's Investigation Committee has unanimously approved to recomment Ihsan's dismissal to the Parliament.
Civil Court Judge Abdulla Ihsan has resigned from his post after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) moved forward with recommending his dismissal to Parliament.
The JSC confirmed that Ihsan submitted his resignation on Wednesday, and that his removal from office took effect the same day.
The JSC’s inquiry committee, at a meeting held on October 12, decided to forward a recommendation to Parliament seeking Ihsan’s dismissal. The committee unanimously concluded that his conduct fell under violations specified in Article 40-5 (a) and Article 40-5 (b), subsections 1, 2, 3 and 4, of the Judges Act. Based on these findings, the committee invoked Article 32-1 (a)(4) of the Judicial Service Commission Act to recommend his removal from the Civil Court bench.
Despite rumors suggesting the case involved sexual harassment, a reliable source told Sun that the employee concerned had twice given statements to the Commission clarifying that no act of sexual harassment had occurred. The employee reportedly said she had never alleged assault and that the matter stemmed from a misunderstanding.
During Ihsan’s previous suspension, speculation also circulated linking the action to a court order issued against Lagoons Sports Club. The JSC later denied those claims in an official press release.
