The Male’ City Council decided on Wednesday to revise its agreement with the Maldivian Red Crescent to require spending details on annual funding of MVR 88,000 for patient transport services in the Maldivian capital to be subject to biannual review.
The Male’ City Council and Maldivian Red Crescent had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on October 8, 2025, to expand the latter’s patient transport services in the greater Male’ area, increasing the organization’s reach to assist the most vulnerable through bed-to-bed services. Under the terms of the agreement, the Male’ City Council committed to providing annual funding of MVR 88,000 for the initiative.
At a meeting on Wednesday, the Male’ City Council discussed making amendments to the agreement. Mohamed Rilwan, the councilor representing the West Maafannu constituency, proposed adding a clause to require the Maldivian Red Crescent to submit reports on its spending of the funds twice a year.
The proposal passed with the unanimous consensus of the councilors who attended the meeting.
In addition to the Red Crescent, the government as well as several private hospitals also provide ambulance services.
