The Maldivian government has strongly condemned the Houthi group’s attacks targeting Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia on 6 and 7 October 2026.
In a statement on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said the attacks resulted in loss of lives, injuries, and damage to airport facilities, describing them as a blatant violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a serious threat to regional peace, security and stability.
The government extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. Maldives also reiterated its solidarity with the Government and people of Saudi Arabia, reaffirming support for all measures undertaken to safeguard the Kingdom’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation reported that three civilians were injured in the attacks, and 36 people were affected overall. International media outlets, including Morocco’s state news agency and Al Jazeera, reported casualties and damage at both airports.
