The Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) and the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) signed an agreement today to conduct training programs for inmates and prison personnel.
Under the agreement, the MRC will facilitate training programs requested by the MCS for its officers, staff, and inmates, within the scope of the MRC’s operational capacity.
Corrections said that the training initiatives will strengthen the professional capabilities of its officers and staff, contributing to improved service standards. The service also emphasized that the collaboration will support efforts to rehabilitate inmates and facilitate their successful reintegration into society as productive members of the community.
The MCS regularly conducts specialized training programs for inmates and prison officers as part of broader efforts to reform the penal system and contribute to a safer community.
As part of efforts to support rehabilitation and successful reintegration, the MCS conducts various workshops and training programs that provide inmates with opportunities to obtain certifications in religious education, basic literacy, and ICT. Vocational skills, including carpentry, electrical work, tailoring, and agriculture, are also taught. In addition, the service provides drug rehabilitation programs as well as psychological and social counselling for inmates.
