EyeCare Maldives has completed a three-day Cataract Surgery Eye Camp held at Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital (ASMH) in G.Dh. Thinadhoo.
The camp, conducted from 26 to 28 September, brought essential eye care and cataract surgery services closer to older persons in the island community.
The camp was initiated by Aged Care Maldives, funded by Atmosphere Foundation, hosted by ASMH and performed by Eyecare.
Dr. Arjun Malla, a specialist in paediatric ophthalmology and cataract surgery at EyeCare Hospital, performed the procedures alongside the clinical team of ASMH, who provided facilities and operational support.
It’s a pleasure to be part of this camp, bringing cataract surgery to older persons in Thinadhoo so they can receive care on their own island, surrounded by their families. pic.twitter.com/hiywzCUval

A total of nine older persons successfully underwent cataract surgery during the camp. In addition, 27 consultations were provided to pre-registered patients and community members, along with seven refractions. Post-operative guidance and medication were also offered free of charge to support recovery.
The camp allowed patients to receive treatment on their home island without the need to travel elsewhere, enabling them to remain close to family while accessing specialised care.
EyeCare Hospital says it remains committed to working with partners to expand access to quality eye care across the Maldives. The hospital expressed gratitude to Aged Care Maldives, Atmosphere Foundation and ASMH for their support in making the Thinadhoo camp a success.
Extending our warmest gratitude to Aged Care for the meaningful work they do for older persons and for bringing us together for this camp. It was wonderful to collaborate with you. pic.twitter.com/XKTajvF6Qn
