Pension Office’s COO Shiuna suspended

Maldives Pension Administration Office (MPAO)’s chief operating officer Mariyam Shiuna has been suspended from her post.

Sun has learned that Shiuna was suspended recently, however, the specific reasons for the suspension have not yet been confirmed. Attempts to obtain further information from MPAO’s CEO Yazmeed Mohamed were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to telephone calls seeing a comment.

Shiuna was appointed MPAO’s in April 2023. Her key responsibilities include providing strategic leadership and overseeing all functions related to the office’s Corporate Affairs.

Before joining MPAO, Shiuna served as President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). She has also held a senior management position at Transparency Maldives.

Shiuna has more than a decade of experience in institutional management, governance, anti-corruption efforts, and institutional integrity. Her areas of expertise include research, training program development, advocacy, and policy formulation.

She holds a Master’s degree in International Development from SOAS, University of London. She obtained her undergraduate degree in History from London Metropolitan University and also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Politics from Birkbeck, University of London.
