Dhuvaafaru lad reported dead while snorkeling

A young man from R. Dhuvaafaru died while snorkeling on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Mohamed Shaffan, of Lilymaage, R. Dhuvaafaru, police told Sun.

Police said they received the report at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. A police media official said Shaffan was already deceased when he was taken to Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital.

His body is currently being kept at Ungoofaaru Hospital for a CT scan as part of the police investigation.

Dhuvaafaru Council President Ahmed Shah told Sun that the body was transported to Ungoofaaru for forensic tests. He said the youth was found near Maroshi in Shaviyani atoll, and that at the time of the initial call, the young man’s identity had not yet been confirmed.

“I was also called only about bringing the body here, for permission to bring it to Dhuvaafaru,” Shah said.

Police have not yet issued further details regarding the incident.
