Asian Games: Maldives’ Maidh sets new national record in 10m air rifle

Maldivian shooter Ahmed Maidh Mohamed set a new national record on Monday, during the Asian Games 2026 underway in Japan.

Both Maidh and Umar Mohamed Nasheed broke a 2025 national record during the men’s 10-meter air rifle event at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.

Nasheed broke the record first by scoring 610.2 points. But Maidh broke the record moments later, by scoring 614.5 points at the event.

The record was previously held by Ibrahim Shifan, who had scored 605.5 points at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. Shifan, who also competed in Monday’s event, placed behind both Maidh and Umar with 597.3 points.

47 shooters from across the world had competed in the men’s 10m air rifle event, with China’s Sheng Lihao, considered one of the best sports shooters of all time, taking the gold with 635.4 points.

The Maldives shooting team will next complete on Tuesday in the 10m air rifle mixed team event.
