Explosions hit ammunition depot in southern Aleppo countryside

Powerful explosions have rocked the town of Al-Eis in the southern countryside of Syria's Aleppo province, Syrian state media confirmed, triggering secondary blasts across a military site.

State-run broadcaster Al-Ikhbariya reported that the cause of the initial blasts remains under active investigation.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) later reported that the detonation occurred at a military facility in the vicinity of Al-Eis, with local civil defence officials confirming that a continuous series of secondary explosions followed the initial blast.

Local sources stated that the explosions took place at an ammunition depot belonging to Syria’s Defence Ministry.

Emergency readiness

Following the detonations, the Internal Security Directorate in Aleppo province placed its forces on high alert, shutting the vital Aleppo-Damascus international highway alongside auxiliary roads leading to the affected sector to ensure civilian safety.

No official casualty or injury figures were immediately confirmed by health authorities.

Aleppo Governor Azzam Al-Gharib urged civilians across the area to remain inside their homes and stay clear of the impact zone.

"Due to explosions occurring in the Al-Eis area and its surroundings south of Aleppo, we urge everyone not to leave their homes and not to approach the sites of the explosions," Al-Gharib said in a statement.

He added that "hospitals and ambulance and emergency teams are on standby, while the relevant authorities are monitoring the situation on the ground and responding to any emergency."
