Ihusan: There should be no room for corruption and abuse of power within the Police

Home Minister Ali Ihusaan, on Sunday, emphasized that there should be no room for corruption and abuse of power within the police institution.

Speaking at a ceremony held to commemorate Maldives Police Service Day, Ihusaan stressed that national security and economic stability can only be ensured when citizens genuinely feel safe and protected.

Addressing police officers at the ceremony, Ihusaan said the greatest measure of satisfaction for the force should be the public’s confidence and satisfaction with the services it provides.

He also underscored that the integrity and discipline demonstrated by each officer, together with the impartial enforcement of the law, are qualities that will earn the respect and appreciation of the public.

The Minister noted that Maldivian citizens closely observe every action taken by police officers, including each instance in which force is used while in uniform, and that these interactions will shape their assessment of whether the police are providing a valuable public service.

He called on all officers to work towards strengthening the reputation and prestige of the police institution.

"We have repeatedly and consistently stated that there should be no room for corruption or the abuse of authority within this institution," Ihusaan said.

Meanwhile, while expressing appreciation for officers who maintain high standards of integrity, the Minister said swift action is being taken against those found to have engaged in misconduct. However, he did not disclose further details regarding the measures being taken.
