Long-serving magistrate Ali Shafeeg dies after 34 years in the judiciary

Magistrate (Retd) Al-Ustaz Ali Shafeeg, who served in the judiciary for more than 34 years, has passed away.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu offered his condolences in a post on X, extending sympathies to Shafeeg’s family and to everyone working in the judicial and legal professions.

Shafeeg served as a magistrate for over three decades, including tenures at the Kaafu Gaafaru Magistrate Court and later as Chief Magistrate of the Dhaalu Meedhoo Magistrate Court. In December 2021, the Judicial Service Commission closed two misconduct and negligence complaints against him, citing medical evidence and his deteriorating health.

Beyond his judicial career, Shafeeg was widely respected for his religious devotion. He taught the Holy Quran for many years in Dh. Meedhoo and Hulhumale', earning recognition as a deeply pious man, an exemplary Quran reciter, and a dedicated teacher who devoted his life to public service and faith.
