The Ministry of Islamic Affairs of Saudi Arabia has distributed more than 1.5 million Saudi riyals to participants of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for Memorizing, Reciting and Interpreting the Holy Quran, held in Makkah.

Each participant received SAR 5,000 (USD 1,332) as recognition and encouragement for their efforts throughout the competition.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), a total of 334 contestants from 133 countries took part in the six-day event. This year’s prize pool amounted to SAR 10.26 million, awarded to 50 winners, including fifth-place finishers across the five categories of the competition.

This year’s edition marked a historic milestone as female participants were included for the first time.

Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh praised the Kingdom’s leadership for its continued support for the Holy Quran and those who dedicate themselves to memorizing and teaching it. He noted that the competition’s electronic judging system had been strengthened to ensure fairness, accuracy and integrity.

Following the competition, participants visited the Clock Tower Museum in Makkah and travelled to Medina as part of the official program.

Maldivian participant Moosa Ashraf described the experience as one of the best of his life. He thanked the organizers for the “perfect arrangements” made for contestants from Makkah to Medina.
