Four arrested in two counter-drug operations in Kulhudhuffushi

Four individuals have been arrested in connection with two separate counter-narcotics operations carried out by the Maldives Police Service in Kulhudhuffushi City.

According to Police, the first operation, carried out on Thursday, resulted in the arrest of Mohamed Umeen, 19, Karanfoo, Dhoodigan, Fuvahmulah City and Aishath Ali, 30, Fahivaa, HDh. Kumundhoo. The pair is suspected of possessing and selling drugs.

The suspects were intercepted at the Kulhudhuffushi RTL Ferry Terminal. A search of the pair led to the discovery of 27 cellophane packets containing substances suspected to be drugs, with a preliminary weight of 7.59 grams. Following their appearance before the court for a remand hearing, Mohamed Umeen was remanded in custody for 15 days, while Aishath Ali was remanded for seven days.

In a separate operation conducted on Wednesday, Police arrested Hussain Naeem, 40, Uraha, Kulhudhuffushi and Abdul Rahman Mohamed 45, Bandharahiya 002P, Kulhudhuffushi, who are suspected of possessing, using and selling drugs.

The two suspects were stopped and searched near the Kulhudhuffushi harbour area, where officers recovered 30 cellophane packets containing substances suspected to be narcotics. The seized substances had a provisional weight of approximately 9.71 grams. Criminal Court subsequently ordered both suspects to be remanded in custody for five days.

Maldives Police Service is continuing its investigation into both cases.
