Maldivian fighter Fathun wins her bout at KFL 8 in Colombo

Maldivian martial arts athlete Fathimath Ibrahim (Fathun) has claimed a major victory at Karma Fight League (KFL 8), South Asia’s largest and most prestigious K-1 kickboxing promotion, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Competing in the 52kg division at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC), Fathun delivered a sharp, composed performance against Sri Lankan fighter Romain, showcasing quick combinations, disciplined footwork and a calm, focused fighting style throughout the bout. Her win earned her a cash prize, awarded to standout champions of the tournament.

Fathun was the only Maldivian athlete competing at KFL 8, which featured fighters from five South Asian countries. 

For Fathun, the Colombo event marked a significant milestone in her career. She has previously represented the Maldives at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) and the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in China. Although she is best known for her achievements in taekwondo, KFL 8 was her first competitive appearance in the K-1 kickboxing category, making the victory even more notable.

A versatile martial artist, Fathun holds a second-degree black belt in taekwondo and a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She has won medals in multiple international taekwondo tournaments and competed in the 2024 ADCC Submission Grappling Championships in the Maldives. Despite K-1 kickboxing being a new discipline for her, she prepared with confidence and adapted quickly to the high-speed striking format that defines the sport.

Her win has sparked widespread celebration across Maldivian social media, with clips of the fight circulating rapidly and fans praising her breakthrough on one of South Asia’s biggest combat-sports stages.
