Ameeza appointed new Commissioner General of Taxation

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Ameeza as the Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

Ameeza was appointed to the role effective from Thursday, 16 July 2026.

The Parliament approved Ameeza as the new Commissioner General of Taxation in a unanimous vote on Wednesday.

The position of Commissioner General of Taxation became vacant following the appointment of former Commissioner Hassan Zareer as Finance Minister. 

Ameeza brings more than 16 years of service at MIRA, where she most recently served as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation. Throughout her tenure, she has played a key role in advancing tax policy reforms, strengthening the authority's governance framework, and enhancing revenue mobilisation efforts.

While leading MIRA's Enforcement Division, Ameeza implemented data-driven strategies and evidence-based policies to improve the systematic recovery of outstanding tax and non-tax revenue obligations.

She holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
