President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives) Mohamed Haleem Abdulla and Deputy Tax Commissioner Fathimath Ameeza have been shortlisted for the vacant position of Commissioner General of Taxation.
The shortlist of candidates sent by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was read at the Parliament on Monday morning, and subsequently sent to the Economic Affairs Committee for vetting.
Haleem’s name was on top of the list, indicating him to be the President’s first choice.
The position of Commissioner General of Taxation got vacated in June after Hassan Zareer joined President Muizzu’s cabinet as Finance Minister.
Of his two potential successors, Haleem is the Head of Finance at Villa Air, and also serves as a board member and chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of the Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA). He has over 17 years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial management, and academia.
He holds a Master of Science in Professional Accountancy from the University of London.
Meanwhile, Ameeza, who was appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Taxation in November 2024, has been working at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) since its establishment.
