HDh. Hanimaadhoo Council has invited HDh. Hirimaradhoo residents who wish to relocate to HA. Hoarafushi to formally express their interest.
On May 17, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially declared Hirimaradhoo as an uninhabited island. Following the designation, administrative responsibility for the island’s residents was transferred to the Hanimaadhoo Council.
In an announcement on Wednesday, the Hanimaadhoo Council said it had received a formal invitation from the Hoarafushi Council for Hirimaradhoo residents who wish to relocate to the island.
Accordingly, residents interested in relocating to Hoarafushi have been given 30 days from Wednesday to submit their names for registration.
The council has requested interested individuals to register at the Hanimaadhoo Ward Office, formerly the Hirimaradhoo Council. Residents may also complete the registration process via email or by contacting the council on 4002064.
Although the Hirimaradhoo Council had initially requested the government to facilitate the relocation of residents to K. Thulusdhoo, the government decided on February 1, 2025, to integrate the island’s population into Hanimaadhoo.
Following the decision, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assured residents that the required housing infrastructure in Hanimaadhoo would be completed and handed over within 18 months. The government also stated that essential services in Hirimaradhoo would continue uninterrupted for as long as residents remained on the island.
Subsequently, on December 30, 2025, the President issued the formal decree authorizing the relocation of Hirimaradhoo residents to Hanimaadhoo.
