Fenaka Corporation has instructed all its employees to clear their criminal records and send it to the management.
In an internal memo, the state utility company instructed for everyone employed at its various departments and branches across the country to obtain their police report and submit it to the head office in Male’ by the end of official working hours next Thursday.
The order to clear criminal records come amid efforts by the company to reduce its 8,000-strong workforce.
The company is offering a four-month salary payout for employees to voluntarily resign.
In an interview to Public Service Media (PSM), Afeef Hussain, who took over as Fenaka’s managing director in April, said that the company, which provided utility services nationwide, faces operational challenges.
He said that the company was working on reducing its staff.
“Given that Fenaka provides services across the nation, there are challenges in providing services. We are working on determining the number of staff who will work the head office and branches in the atolls as part of efforts to reduce the workforce,” he said.
