Sidheeq Ali, 68, of Saya, Dh. Meedhoo, has passed away after many years of dedicated service to his island and atoll.
Following a prolonged battle with illness, he passed away this Tuesday.
Sidheeq was widely respected for his contributions to Meedhoo’s development and social sector. He served in government for 31 years, during which he held the posts of Meedhoo Island Chief and Deputy Chief.
Following the transition to decentralization, he continued to serve the community as the head of the Meedhoo Council for many years.
In the 1980s, Sidheeq also taught at Dhaalu Atoll School, shaping the early education of many in the atoll.
He was an active voice on atoll affairs and served as a member of the atoll committee. He was regarded as a community leader and an exemplary figure known for his integrity and kindness.
The people of Meedhoo describe his passing as a profound loss to the island.
Funeral prayers will be held at Aasaharaa Miskiy, Male’ city, after Isha prayers on Tuesday evening.
