The Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway following a dangerous fire incident in Sh. Milandhoo last night, which resulted in extensive damage.
While the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, authorities stated that the investigation will establish whether the incident was an act of arson or caused by an electrical short circuit.
The fire was reported to the police at approximately 11:09pm, after smoke was seen emanating from the ‘Adamkoibey’ fiberglass worksite, located near the island's airport development area.It was brought under complete control around 1:00am through the combined efforts of the local community and the police.
Speaking with Sun, the Police confirmed that no injuries were reported. However, three dinghies and various equipment used for fiberglass works were extensively damaged and rendered unusable. Expensive molds used for boat building were significantly damaged as well.
Sun has learned that the fire is believed to have originated from a nearly completed dinghy that was awaiting engine installation. The fire spread rapidly, affecting other nearby vessels.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
