Japan has handed over firefighting equipment to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
Firefighting equipment donated by Japan to the Maldives has been handed over to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
The donation, which included pumps and other firefighting equipment, was handed over by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to the MNDF’s Fire and Rescue Service in a ceremony held on Wednesday.
The ceremony was attended by Japanese Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko, Maldivian Defense Minister Hassan Rasheed, Chief of Defense Force Ibrahim Hilmy, NDMA’s CEO Hisan Hassan, and other top officials.
Japan has been a long‑standing partner in strengthening Maldives’ disaster‑response and maritime‑safety capabilities. Earlier, Japan donated MVR 79 million (800 million yen) worth of equipment to the MNDF Coast Guard for use in maritime search‑and‑rescue operations.
