Maldives under 16 female tennis team beats India in a first

Maldives under 16 female national tennis team has achieved historic milestone at the ongoing Billie Jean King Cup Juniors Final Qualifying in Shymkent, Kazakhstan – delivering an impressive performance by securing victory in the doubles match against Asian tennis powerhouse India.

In a tightly contested match, the Maldivian team claimed the doubles match with a score of 7-6, 3-6, and 11-9. Nevertheless, as India won both singles matches, the overall tie concluded with a 2-1 victory in favor of India.

This achievement marks the first occasion on which a junior team from the Maldives has progressed to the Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying stage of the Billie Jean King Cup. The team qualified for the prestigious tournament after securing third place in the pre-qualifying competition held in Sri Lanka last month.

Representing the Maldives in the tournament, which is being held from May 11 to May 16, are Manha Mohamed, Aishath Karin Saizan, and Keyara Usama Ali. The team is led by National Coach Iran’s Alireza Etminan Basseri as captain, with Aminath Irufa Mahir serving as team manager.

The Maldives is competing in a challenging group alongside India, China, and Indonesia. Following their performance against India, the Maldivian team is scheduled to face China later today.
