A man who exposed his nudity to his sister‑in‑law has been sentenced to prison.

The incident took place on an island in the south of Maldives last December, when a Maldivian man exposed himself to his brother’s wife while she was in the kitchen.

Prosecutors charged the man with indecent exposure of his genitals. At trial, the defendant pleaded guilty.

As he admitted to the offence, the case was processed as a summary trial.

Indecent exposure of the genitals is an offence under the Maldives Penal Code. It falls under “indecent conduct” as defined in Article 612, which prohibits exposing one’s genitals in a public place or in a manner visible to others.

According to the magistrate’s report, the sentence was reduced by one degree due to the defendant’s confession. The basic sentence for the offence was four months and 24 days, which was reduced to three months and 18 days.

Although the sentence is three months and 18 days, the defendant had already spent two months in custody during the investigation. Therefore, the remaining sentence to be served is one month and 18 days.

The verdict was delivered today, on Monday.
