Mohamed Afeef appointed Fenaka’s MD; third in current administration

Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB), on Monday, has appointed Mohamed Afeef Hussain to head Fenaka Corporation, a company that has been the target of multiple corruption allegations.

Afeef becomes the third Managing Director appointed to Fenaka by the current administration. The first, Muaz Mohamed Rasheed, resigned voluntarily, after which Mohamed Najah was appointed on December 23, 2024. However, Najah was removed from the position on April 6 of this year.

In a statement on Monday, PCB announced the appointment of Afeef, M. Waveside, 304 Flat as both a member of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, with immediate effect.

Afeef, who has served in the public sector for over 40 years, holds a Master’s degree in Shariah and has completed a Board Executive Certificate in Directorship from Singapore Management University. He also holds diplomas in Business Administration and Business Management and is professionally certified as a Balanced Scorecard Professional and Risk Management Professional, reflecting a strong foundation in governance, strategic performance, and institutional leadership.

With over four decades of public service, Afeef has developed an extensive career spanning infrastructure, utility services, and government administration in the Maldives. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), where he provided strategic oversight for major national infrastructure projects. His earlier leadership roles include serving as Chairman of the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) and Fenaka Corporation, in addition to holding multiple board positions across regional utility companies.

He has also held several senior government roles, including Director General positions within public works services, housing, and corporate departments across various ministries. In these capacities, he led large-scale infrastructure development initiatives, coordinated national projects, and contributed to strengthening institutional performance. Beginning his career in the water and sanitation sector, Afeef advanced through both operational and executive roles in the electricity and public works sectors, playing a significant role in the development and management of critical infrastructure across the Maldives.
