Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has announced its decision to waive fines accumulated on unpaid water bills issued up to the end of last year, on the condition that the principal amounts are fully settled.
In a statement released on Wednesday, MWSC said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to offer flexible payment arrangements to its customers. The waiver applies to long-outstanding fines incurred by both domestic and commercial tariff customers. According to the company, these fines will be waived once the full outstanding balance of the relevant bills is settled by the end of this year.
Furthermore, MWSC stated that installment payment arrangements will be made available for customers who prefer to settle their overdue bills on a monthly basis. The company noted that, in such cases, the fines will be formally waived upon the successful completion of payments in accordance with the agreed installment plan.
Customers seeking assistance or further information regarding this initiative may contact the MWSC Customer Care Center via the hotline at 105, by sending an SMS to 1050, or by email at [email protected].
"We encourage all customers to utilize this opportunity to settle their overdue bills and accumulated fines, and we urge everyone to regularly settle their bills," the MWSC statement read.
While the waiver of fines by various governments has been a matter of concern for some, the current administration has also followed suit, including the waiver of overdue rent fines for social housing flats in Hulhumalé Phase I and Hiyaa flats, as well as for Male' Hiyaa and Sinamalé flats.
