The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has urged consumers to exercise caution after poison was found in a baby food bottle in Austria.

In a public notice, the MFDA said German company HiPP has been ordered to withdraw its HiPP‑brand baby food products from the Austrian market after authorities suspected the products may contain rat poison. Austrian police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The MFDA noted that although the product is not registered in the Maldives, there remains a possibility that individuals may import it for personal use.

As a precautionary measure, the authority has advised the public not to import, sell or use any such products in the Maldives.

For more information, the MFDA can be contacted at 3034213 or 7603204.
