Post‑mortem to determine cause of death of man who died in police custody

A post‑mortem will be conducted on the man who died while in police custody on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Naushad, 41, of Reyalivage, Male' City.

Police said Naushad was found lying inside a cell at the Male' Custodial early Wednesday evening. He was taken to IGMH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In a statement, police said a post‑mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Police earlier said the incident has been reported to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC), as required in custodial‑death cases.

An investigation is underway.
