The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, Dr. MD Nazmul Islam, has stated last night that Bangladeshi expatriates working in the Maldives play the most pivotal role in maintaining the robust bilateral relations between the two nations.
Speaking at a special reception held at Hotel Jen to commemorate the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh, the High Commissioner expressed profound appreciation for the hard work of the Bangladeshi community and their significant contributions to the Maldivian economy. He further assured that the High Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the dignity of its citizens and providing them with necessary assistance.
Reflecting on the ties between the two countries, the High Commissioner conveyed his gratitude for the recent visit to Bangladesh by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel. He noted that the meeting held with the new Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, during this visit marked the first international engagement of the new Bangladeshi government with a foreign administration. He highlighted this as a clear testament to the strength and depth of the relationship between the two countries.
The High Commissioner also reiterated his commitment to further strengthening cooperation in the fields of trade, education, and healthcare.

In his address, the High Commissioner looked back at the history of Bangladesh’s independence, paying tribute to President Ziaur Rahman, who declared independence in 1971, and remembering the thousands of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Referring to the current political landscape in Bangladesh, he noted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the new government is working to strengthen the democratic system through a "Bangladesh First" policy.
Furthermore, highlighting Bangladesh’s expanding role on the global stage, the High Commissioner remarked that the international community applauds the nation’s contribution to UN peacekeeping missions. He also announced that Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, has submitted his candidacy for the presidency of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.
The ceremony was graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, as the Guest of Honor. The event was also attended by senior government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
