The Dhiggaru Council has opened a bid to construct a monument representing the island’s slogan, “The Rihaakuru Island.”
According to the announcement, interested contractors must register before 12pm on April 9, and bids must be submitted by 11am on April 14. Those unable to submit bids in person may send a representative with a copy of their ID card.
Dhiggaru Council President Ahmed Nishan Mohamed told Sun that the monument is part of the council’s work plan for this year and that the design has already been finalized.
The monument will reflect Dhiggaru’s long‑held identity as the island famous for producing the finest Rihaakuru, a thick, slow‑cooked fish paste considered a Maldivian delicacy. Images shared with the announcement show a Rihaakuru pot as the central feature of the structure.
Many islands across Maldives have erected similar monuments at their jetties to showcase local heritage and identity.
