In a separate case, two Indian nationals have once again been arrested on suspicion of smuggling narcotics into the Maldives by air.

The suspects in the latest arrests are an Indian man and woman, with authorities discovering approximately two kilograms of drugs concealed in their luggage.

This brings the number of Indian nationals arrested on drug-related charges within a single week to four. Earlier this week, other suspects were detained after roughly seven kilograms of narcotics were discovered in their possession.

The two individuals, a 25-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, were presented before the Criminal Court on Thursday for a remand hearing. The court ordered that both suspects be held in custody for five days.

During an inspection of their luggage, officials recovered several bottles containing hashish oil. Both suspects told the court that they wish to appoint legal representation.

The two Indian nationals arrested earlier this week are aged 21 and 19. According to their remand orders, several bottles of hashish oil were also found in their luggage, with a total provisional weight of 6.7 kilograms.

Additionally, a Malaysian woman and two Maldivian men were arrested this week in connection with the seizure of two kilograms of narcotics. The suspects were identified as Ranjini Jeevananthan, 38, from Malaysia, Looth Ibrahim, 29, from GDh. Vaadhoo, and Ahmed Rishmah, 21, from GA. Dhaandhoo.

Ranjini was arrested at Velana International Airport, while Looth Ibrahim and Ahmed Rishmah were taken into custody in Malé.
