European Union leaders have expressed strong solidarity with Gulf countries following a series of Iranian missile and drone attacks that targeted multiple locations across the region this week.

In a joint statement issued Thursday after an emergency meeting in Brussels, EU leaders condemned the attacks as a “dangerous escalation” and affirmed their support for the security of Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait. The bloc said it stands ready to work with regional partners to prevent further destabilisation.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the attacks risked triggering a wider regional conflict. He called for “maximum restraint” and urged all parties to avoid actions that could worsen tensions.

Several European leaders also highlighted the need to protect global energy supplies, noting that the Gulf remains a critical route for international trade and fuel shipments. They warned that continued attacks could have serious economic consequences beyond the Middle East.

The EU reiterated its commitment to diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions with Iran, while stressing that the security of Gulf partners remains a priority.
