Veteran film director Amjad Ibrahim in critical condition at Treetop Hospital

Maldivian film director Amjad Ibrahim (Amjay): He has been admitted to Treetop Hospital in Hulhumale', March 5, 2026.

Maldivian film director Amjad Ibrahim (Amjay) has been admitted to Treetop Hospital in Hulhumale' after his condition worsened due to fluid in his lungs, according to family members. 

He is currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s cardiac care unit (CCU). 

Amjay is one of the most prolific directors in the Maldivian film industry, known for both directing and screenwriting. Over his decades‑long career, he produced several films that became widely popular among Maldivian audiences, including Udhabaani, Mila Handhuvaru, Sandhuravirey, Baaraige Fas, Dhin Veynuge Hithaamaigai, and Dhonkamana. 

He received the National Award for Film Directing in the Performing Arts category in 2006, and in 2011, he was nominated for Best Director at the first Maldives Film Awards.
