MVR 1.3M collected as Fitr Zakat in the first week of Ramadan

Islamic Ministry has announced the collection of MVR 1.3 million as Fitr Zakat in the first week of Ramadan.

Maldives Zakat House commenced the collection of Fitr Zakat on February 22nd. Payments are currently being accepted through seven online platforms:

  • Dhiraagu Mobile App and Dhiraagu Pay website
  • Ooredoo m-Faisaa mobile app
  • Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) mobile app
  • Bank of Maldives (BML) mobile app
  • FahiPay mobile app
  • Avas mobile app
  • Bandeyri Pay website

On Thursday, the Zakat House reported that MVR 1.3 million was collected as Fitr Zakat during the first week of Ramadan, without disclosing any further details.

Notably, this year, arrangements have also been made to accept Zakat payments via cash cards, specifically catering to those who are not accustomed to making online payments.

According to the Zakat House, individuals in the atolls who prefer not to use online methods can pay their Fitr Zakat at their respective local council offices.

The Zakat House further stated that local councils will utilize a dedicated Fitr Portal developed specifically for managing Zakat collections made in cash or grain.

The Fitr Zakat rates for this Ramadan are as follows:

  • Normal Rice: MVR 12
  • Thailand White Rice: MVR 53
  • Red Rice: MVR 96
  • Basmati Rice (Regularl): MVR 77
  • Basmati Rice (Premium): MVR 109
  • Basmati Rice (Super Premium): MVR 136
  • Regular Flour: MVR 10
  • Atta Flour: MVR 75
